Position Description:

The Lead Preschool Teacher reports to the Preschool Program Director and is responsible for planning and implements a program appropriate for a designated group of young children and to support a positive learning environment. The Lead Preschool Teacher will be responsible for the education, supervision and management of children between the ages of three to five years of age and will be responsible for planning appropriate educational lessons, activities and assessments in accordance with the Pre-K curriculum, ECERS and DRDP-R requirements. The Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for supervising the Assistant Teacher assigned to room and any volunteers. The program operates 175 days a year, with a morning and afternoon session of 16 students per class.

Responsibilities:

Experience and training should reflect a high level of professional preparation and dedication as a teacher of young children of different developmental levels from diverse social, cultural and language background

  • Professionally trained in the field of early childhood education or growth and development
  • Ability to assess the individual needs of children and to develop an appropriate program for all
    children
  • Ability to establish and maintain a high level of collegial cooperation with staff and community

Knowledge, Skills
& Abilities:

  • These responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Plan, supervise, and implement the daily operation of a classroom to meet all guidelines in accordance with the policies and philosophy of LAUP and HTHF Community Preschool, Community Care Licensing and other state and federal agencies.
  • Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concern for planning appropriate activities around children’s interests, special needs and level of development assessed by using the Desired Results Developmental Profile-Revise
  • Treat children with dignity and respect
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, ordered and appropriate learning environment in and outside of the classroom
  • Assume an equivalent share of the staffs’ joint housekeeping responsibilities
  • Participates in recommended training programs, conferences and courses and, other aspects of professional growth
  • Plans and implements methods for establishing a positive liaison with Parents and Community Representatives.
  • Keeps accurate attendance records, anecdotal progress reports, assessments records, parent conference forms to be shared with parents and portfolio support documentation on individual children
  • Provide parent conferencing, parent education and coordinate parent involvement
  • Fulfill all state licensing requirements
  • Cooperate in the effort to interview, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate employees
  • Supervise assistant teachers and volunteers
  • Design and implement the daily classroom routine
  • Plan, prepare, conduct, and evaluate developmentally age- appropriate activities for children served; make adjustments necessary for children with special needs
  • Observe and record child progress and development
  • Prepare routine correspondence to parents and conduct scheduled conferences with each parent regarding their child’s progress and development
  • Advise Program Director of equipment and supply needs
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Program Director or Director of Program Services
  • Must attend company sponsored events that relate to the development of the team, which, from to time, may include overnight stays at locations away from the employee’s home.

Additional Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Child Development Teacher Permit
  • CPR, First Aid Training
  • B.A Degree in early childhood education/child development or related field
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in licensed child care center or school setting
  • Must meet all local and state licensing requirements for lead teacher according to CCLD
  • Experience with a similar age group of children as indicated by the position available preferred
  • Ability to lift from 15 to 40 pounds and ability to move freely (bending, sitting on floor, running, jumping, etc.) to support the indoor and outdoor activity of children required
  • Experience with word processing and general computer use required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
