Position Description:

The Early Education Assistant reports directly to the Preschool Teacher and Program Director and assists teaching staff by preparing and conducting instructional activities, working with children, managing and redirecting behavior, and performs related duties and clerical tasks as required.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists teacher(s) in monitoring, evaluating, and assessing the progress and developmental levels of children through observation and documentation.
  • Posts information on student assessments and other records.
  • Works as a liaison with parents and/or community groups.
  • Procures materials and resources for parent meetings.
  • Participates as a member of the shared decision making team and parent advisory and safety committees.
  • Assists in organizing and planning curricular trips.
  • Assists teachers in creating instructional materials for bulletin boards, children’s projects, and learning centers.
  • Prepares an inventory of classroom supplies and makes recommendations for ordering instructional materials.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Education:

The Preschool Teaching Assistant must have 12 college semester units or the equivalent number of quarter units from a recognized college or university in child development core courses, including at least one course in each of the following areas: child /human growth and development; child/family/community or child and family relations; and programs/curriculum.

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 ECE Units and 2 years experience in an instructional capacity in a child care and development program.
  • Must speak English with fluency
  • Knowledge of safety rules and the habits to be observed by children
  • Knowledge of standards of courtesy and behavior expected of children
  • Correct English grammatical usage
  • Appropriate appearance and cleanliness
  • Ability to read English aloud with ease and expression
  • Write legibly
  • Knowledge of how to operate audio- visual, instructional and computer equipment
  • Work effectively as a member of an instructional team, with children, parents, and community representatives.
